What creative students I have!!! Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest. Start collecting those coins!
This week, we've been learning about tools that mathematicians use, such as number lines and 100s charts. We've played games & have used these tools to help us solve problems. A student in Mrs. Allen's class brought a Swallowtail caterpillar to share with 2nd grade. We put it under the Eye Clops & got to see its true legs, prolegs, and tiny bristles. Do you know what an owl pellet is? We learned that owls are unable to digest the hair, bones, beaks, and feathers from their prey, so they regurgitate it. The kids found complete skulls of rodents, as well as many other bones. They even discovered that the rodents' front teeth could be pulled out of the jaw bone with over an inch-long root because rodent teeth are continuously growing. What an amazing experience! We are finishing our animal studies and have really enjoyed having class "visitors" to observe. We've learned about arthropods, fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Stay tuned! Next week, our Painted Lady caterpillars will be arriving! Today, we went on our first field trip...to the McWane Center. We watched an amazing IMAX movie called Flight if the Butterflies! Here are a few pictures. |
