Oh, the day we've been waiting for! Chrombooks are here, and the kids are so excited! This week, we've been learning about place value and how to represent numbers in standard form, expanded form, and base 10 form. To practice base 10 form, we used food. The crackers were hundreds, the pretzel sticks were tens, and the marshmallows were ones. The kids practiced building 2 and 3 digit numbers.
The kids chose from about 30 quotes or sayings that they feel mean something to them. They colored the quotes and we posted them in our classroom. We also made our pledge/promise to follow our class rules: be respectful, be responsible, be resourceful, be safe.
This week in the STEAM Studio, our class learned about the upcoming solar eclipse. The kids participated in different stations and created models of the eclipse using clay, legos, paper puppets, etc.
Each morning, the kids unpack, make their lunch choices, and choose a morning math activity. For now, we are practicing this routine and learning about the types of choices available (checkers, pattern blocks, unifix cubes, playdough, puzzles, math games taught during the week, etc. Soon, morning math choice will involve a specific task for the kids to complete that relates to math. This has been a great way to start the day!
I decided to start the day with some relaxing, play-dough fun! Today was an awesome day! We learned the first of the 7 Habits...be proactive (you are in charge of you). We read some great books, we practiced routines/procedures, and we even had a summer snowball fight! Thank you for sharing your sweet babies with me! I love them already.
